History
The Governor’s Council was established, in 1992, through the vision of Governor Lawton Chiles. He saw it as a way to engage the private sector with state agencies to identify and resolve local health issues.
Three large corporations, a community hospital and the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce convened a forum of community leaders to help steer this ‘partnership’. This forum has matured into the current Board of Directors, which now consists of a wide range of professionals from local health and human service organizations and members of the business community.
This
partnership allows for a more efficient and creative approach in addressing
various health problems within Palm Beach County. The Council has always worked
closely with the Palm Beach County Health Department to prioritize needs and
share assets.
