Summer
Camp Scholarship Program
keeping kids safe . . . all summer long
In Palm Beach County, more than
30,000
school-age children live in poverty. Without resources to purchase child care or
other supervised activities, these children are often unsupervised or supervised by
slightly older siblings.
National studies show that the more removed from adult supervision
children are, the more likely they are to commit antisocial acts. Also self-care is
associated with a number of negative outcomes - including decreased academic achievement
and increased risk of truancy, substance abuse and other risk-taking behaviors.
Summertime
is the hardest time, without school supervision to fill the hours.
The Summer Camp
Scholarship Program offers low-income children a full scholarship to a
day camp for the entire summer. With over 100 day camps
participating in the program, parents can match their children's
interest with camp programs.
$82.50 will send a child to camp for one week; $660 for an entire summer.
